Mary Seers first studied singing whilst a Choral Exhibitioner at Girton College Cambridge, where she read Social Anthropology, and then continued her training in Rome and London. Although best known as a Baroque singer she performs music from the Renaissance to the present day.
Mary has worked with many eminent ensembles including The Sixteen, The Monteverdi Choir, The Consort of Musicke, The Taverner Consort, The Scholars, The Hilliard Ensemble and Red Byrd. She has appeared all over the world in venues such as the Lincoln Centre New York, Sydney Opera House, Suntory Hall Tokyo and Wroclav Cathedral Poland, as well as most of the main London Halls. She has performed Bach, Haydn and Mozart with the City of London Sinfonia, the Hanover Band and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, as well as singing for many Choral Societies across Great Britain.
From the 20th century, Mary has sung the role of the soprano Evangelist from Arvo Partís Passio, a piece she has performed extensively with the Hilliard Ensemble including a Prom. She also sang the role of Madeleine in Music Theatre Walesí production of Philip Glassí opera The fall of the House of Usher which was highly praised by the composer. In 2002 she took part in the first performance of a piece for sixteen voices, electronics and narrators by the Portuguese composer Miguel Azguime at the Miso Music Festival in Coimbra.
Amongst her recordings are Faureís Requiem with the English Chamber Orchestra, Monteverdiís Vespers of 1610 with The Sixteen and Purcell Odes with the Kingís Consort. She has broadcast on radio both here and throughout Europe, and appeared in a Channel 4 documentary on the French composer Eric Satie.
Mary is in increasing demand as a singing teacher, and for a number of years has been a Singing Tutor at Blackheath Conservatoire of Music and Art.
